Fairy's Cove II is an original impressionist water lily painting — 39" × 25", oil on canvas — by Washington, DC–based contemporary artist Maria-Victoria Checa.

Fairy's Cove II draws you into a mysterious, luminous world at the edge of a lily pond. An emerald and teal canopy cascades downward from above, its reflection dissolving into the deep cobalt water below where lily pads float in yellow, green, and soft pink. A veil of lavender mist rises at the water's edge, giving the composition an otherworldly, enchanted quality — as if you have stumbled upon a hidden cove where light behaves differently than anywhere else.

Painted in oil with rich palette knife texture, the surface of Fairy's Cove II is extraordinary — layers of green and teal built up into a dense, luminous canopy that glows with an almost phosphorescent light. It is a painting that references Monet's water lily tradition while being wholly and unmistakably its own.

Fairy's Cove II was commissioned for the Waldorf Astoria Chicago through Kevin Barry Art Advisory, where it is permanently installed above the fireplace in the hotel's elegant lounge.
