Golden Meadow — Miniature Impressions No. 5

Golden Meadow is an original impressionist floral landscape painting — 8" × 8" (20.3 cm × 20.3 cm), acrylic on canvas — by Washington, DC–based contemporary artist Maria-Victoria Checa.

I painted this piece chasing that warm, golden-hour feeling — coral and amber blooms catching the light against cooler blue-violet irises and a rich green field. There's a real push and pull of temperature across the canvas, the warm tones almost glowing against the cooler shadows tucked underneath. I built up the petals thick with a loaded palette knife so the color itself carries the light, the way a field looks right before the sun dips low.

This is the fifth piece in my Miniature Impressions series — small-scale studies that let me explore color and light with the same intensity as my larger landscapes, distilled into a more intimate format. Each piece stands on its own, or joins the growing series as a set.
