ON EDGE! is an original bold gestural abstract painting, 36" x 48" (91.4 x 121.9 cm), acrylic on canvas, by Washington, DC–based contemporary artist Maria-Victoria Checa.

Columns of color fall down the canvas like rain against a window. Cobalt and teal carry most of the surface. A flame of orange burns up the left side next to a dark plum shadow, and lime green, coral, and ochre spill down the right. The paint was dragged and scraped in layers, so earlier colors show through the breaks. Up close the surface has real texture: raised ridges, granular passages, and drips that catch the light as you walk past.

The title describes the tension in the piece. The warm colors push hard against the cool field around them, and nothing quite settles. It is energetic without being chaotic, a painting that holds a room rather than blending into it.

At 36" x 48", ON EDGE! works as a statement piece above a sofa, in an entryway, or on a large open wall in a living room, office, or dining space. It is especially striking against deep greens, charcoal, and warm neutrals.
