Rose Meadow — Miniature Impressions No. 2

Rose Meadow is an original impressionist floral landscape painting — 8" × 8" (20.3 cm × 20.3 cm), acrylic on canvas — by Washington, DC–based contemporary artist Maria-Victoria Checa.

I painted this piece chasing the feeling of standing in a garden in full, almost overwhelming bloom — reds and crimsons pushing forward against soft pinks and cool greens, with a patch of blue hydrangea grounding the bottom of the canvas. I built up the red blooms with a loaded palette knife so they'd catch the light and hold real texture, while the background stayed looser and more atmospheric, the way a garden blurs at the edges of your vision when you're standing close to one particular flower.

This is the second piece in my Miniature Impressions series — small-scale studies where I get to work with the same intensity of color and light as my larger landscapes, just distilled into a smaller, more intimate format. Each one is meant to stand alone as its own small jewel, or to sit alongside the others in the series.

A vivid burst of garden color in a small format — this one brings warmth and energy into any space, no matter how it's paired. Part of my ongoing Miniature Impressions series, where each 8x8 painting captures a small, intense moment of color and light.
