Waterlilies Covered by Snow is an original impressionist water lily painting — 20" x 16" (51 x 41 cm), oil on canvas — by Washington, DC–based contemporary artist Maria-Victoria Checa.

Inspired by Claude Monet's water garden at Giverny, this painting imagines the famous lily pond in winter. A hush of pale lavender, silver and white settles over the water, while lily pads in coral, saffron and rose still glow through the snow. Weeping greens frame the pond and dark reeds rise from the bank. The thick, textured oil paint makes the snow feel soft and layered, a quiet, luminous take on one of the most beloved subjects in French Impressionism.
